Chris Jackson is Managing Director for premium rail operator TransPennine Express (TPE), having joined the business initially in May 2023 following its transfer to public ownership.
In his role, Chis directly leads a team of 1,800 people in providing a safe and reliable service for customers across the North and into Scotland, while helping deliver major investment under the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU).
Chris has more than 23 years’ experience in track and train, having joined the rail industry in 2001 on Railtrack’s Graduate Training Scheme. Since then, Chris has held multiple senior leadership roles, with experience across stations, managing traincrew, frontline operations, project, network control and electrical control centres.
Prior to joining TPE, Chris was Regional Director at Northern, where he had responsibility for a team of more than 2,400 and functions including; customer experience, safety, traincrew leadership, operational strategy and stakeholder relations. Under his leadership, the region was transformed through the introduction of new trains, a major timetable change, trade union relations, stakeholder engagement and customer sentiment.
Alongside his current duties, Chris is also Patron of the Transport Benevolent Fund charity; a Board Member of the Chartered Institute of Railway Operators and a Non-Executive Director at Blackpool Transport.
