Different learning opportunities 

Academic courses 

CIRO has three main pillars in its academic course makeup.  

The Certificate course is a one-year offering for new rail professionals. You will complete the coursework-based learning path in conjunction with Glasgow Caledonian Unviersity.  

The Diploma is a two-year course ideal for mid-level rail professionals looking to enhance skills in commercial awareness and vital operating skills.  

CIRO also offers a Bachelor of Science degree. The Railway Operations Management course lasts two years and offers exciting opportunities for fast-tracking your rail career. 

Apprenticeships 

CIRO offers three different apprenticeships at a variety of standards. These include a Level 3 Team Leader and Supervisor course, a Level 4 Passenger Transport Operations Manager course and a Level 5 Operational and Department course.  

CIRO designs each of its apprenticeship courses to offer real-life experience and learning situations for budding rail professionals.  

Short Courses  

There are six different short rail courses developed by CIRO and made accessible to professionals around the world. These rail industry courses are a perfect way to reaffirm your knowledge and advance your skills in an innovative industry.  

These short-style courses include operational planning, service delivering and stakeholder management.
