Jake is the managing director of North West & Central Region at Network Rail, where he is a member of the Executive Leadership Team reporting to the chief executive, Jeremy Westlake.
Jake has recently taken on the role as deputy CEO alongside his Eastern MD colleague Ellie Burrows.
He leads a team of over 8,000 staff and is responsible for operating, maintaining and renewing around 25% of the UK rail network, plus delivering an extensive capital investment portfolio of circa £1-2 billion per annum that involves the modernisation of the north end of the West Coast Main Line, the East West Rail project and the Midlands Rail Hub.
Before that, Jake was managing director of Network Rail’s Eastern region and also the Group Director of its national System Operator department, where he was responsible for network operations, service delivery and strategy, including the Integrated Rail Plan.
Prior to joining Network Rail, Jake led East Midlands Trains and had a variety of customer, commercial and operational roles at South West Train and Stagecoach Group. In his early career, he was an economist at Coopers & Lybrand.
