Gunnar initially joined London Underground as a management trainee before becoming a signaller and line controller on the Central line.
Joining Network Rail in 2017, he has led a number of operational teams including as Operations Director for Network Rail’s Wessex Route, before leaving to become Operations Director for Arriva Rail London.
In early 2026, Gunnar joined Network Rail’s East Coast and LNER as their Joint Operations Director, where he is leading early integration activity ahead of our transition to Great British Railways.
