What’s Being Covered?
The Rail Accident Investigation Branch is the independent railway accident investigation organisation for the UK. The RAIB is concerned with the investigation of accidents and incidents on the national railway networks in Great Britain and Northern Ireland, as well as others including the London Underground, other metro systems, light rail, tramways and heritage railways.
The purpose of an RAIB investigation is to improve the safety of railways, and to prevent further accidents from occurring. The RAIB achieves this by identifying the causes of accidents along with any other contributing factors.
Dominique Louis is Acting Principal Inspector at the Rail Accident Investigation Branch and will cover the history of the RAIB, how it is structured, how it responds to incidents, the type of incidents it responds to, and how lessons learned are identified and communicated.
