About the Event

On 10 May 2002, a West Anglia Great Northern train from King’s Cross to King’s Lynn became derailed in Potters Bar station at 97mph. Six passengers travelling on board the train were killed, and a seventh person was killed by masonry falling from the bridge.

After his excellent talk in 2021 on the Clapham Junction accident, we have invited Greg Morse back to talk through the events leading up to the accident at Potters Bar, as well as the lessons we learnt as an industry to control future risks.

Greg is Operational Feedback Lead at the Rail Safety and Standards Board and a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Railway Operators. He is known across the industry as an engaging and enthusiastic speaker, so we are delighted that he will be returning to speak to our members about the Potters Bar accident. He also writes railway history books, and a link to his website may be found here.
