Held from Friday 1 August to Sunday 3 August 2025, Alstom’s The Greatest Gathering saw Britain’s largest and oldest operating train factory – Derby Litchurch Lane Works – open its doors to the public for the first time in almost 50 years to display over 140 rail vehicles.
Marking the 200th anniversary of the modern railway, the sold-out event was the world’s largest-ever gathering of historic and modern rolling stock and welcomed over 40,000 visitors to Derby.
Ben Goodwin, Communications Director UK and Ireland at Alstom takes us behind the scenes of this once-in-a-generation event, describing how The Greatest Gathering was planned and delivered.
Additionally, following the resubmission of the application for Alstom’s Wrexham, Shropshire and Midlands Railway (WSMR) open access passenger service, this will also provide a timely opportunity for an update and Q&A with Mobilisation Director, Darren Horley.
For those attending in person, there will be the opportunity to have a Christmas drink with CIRO CEO Phil Sherratt, Ben and Darren from Alstom, and members of the Area Council after the event.
The North West & Wales Area Council look forward to welcoming you to their event and enjoying light refreshments before the talk. After the event join the guest speakers and council members for a Christmas drink and a chat with industry colleagues.
