About the Event

Join the CIRO for a visit to Iarnród Éireann / Irish Rail’s Portlaoise Traincare Depot on the 8th October 2026. The Depot is the purpose built home to the Class 22000 intercity railcar fleet which operate widely over almost the entire network and are the backbone of the passenger fleet. You will get the opportunity to learn about how the fleet is maintained, the challenges of co-ordinating this complex operation with other functions and suppliers and how the fleet and its maintenance is continuously evolving.

 

How to Attend

This visit is limited to 20 places. Attendees are requested to bring an Orange hi-vis vest if they have one and wear robust footwear (safety footwear or hiking boots).

Please arrive at LTCD before the required start time in order to pass through security.

For international attendees, Portlaoise station is easily accessible by train from Dublin , Cork and other cities. The depot is located outside of the town from Portlaoise, so a short road transfer (3km) or long walk will be required. Please advise when booking if intending to arrive by train.
