With the Midland Main Line electrification now confirmed, join us for a discussion with Duncan Cale, Infrastructure Interface Lead for East Midlands Railway, and Gavin Crook, Principal Programme Sponsor for Network Rail.
Both experts will outline the development of the route over recent years, including the introduction of 4-tracking, electrification, platform extensions, new maintenance facilities and traincrew depots. These important pieces of work have seen an increase in intercity train services to 6 trains per hour into London St Pancras International.
The upcoming upgrade, occurring as part of the Integrated Rail Plan which announced full electrification to Nottingham, Derby, and Sheffield, will build on the award-winning work already completed which has seen wires extended from Bedford to Corby. Current work is focused on wiring from Kettering to Wigston, improvements to the infrastructure south of Bedford, and upgrades to the power supply.
