Manchester Railway Operations Centre Visit

Join the North West and Wales Area Council, for an opportunity to visit Manchester Railway Operations Centre.

Manchester Railway Operations Centre (MROC) is situated close to Ashbury’s railway station. It currently has 4 Manchester workstations and 4 Liverpool workstations as well as the Blackpool workstation on the first floor, with the second floor housing the Crewe South and the Crewe Independent Lines workstations.
There are 4 Local Operation Manager (LOM) positions: MROC East looking after the Liverpool, Lime Street, Wavertree West workstations, MROC West looking after the Manchester Oxford Road, Central, North workstations, MROC Central looking after the Blackpool, Wavertree, Macclesfield workstations, and MROC Crewe South looking after Crewe South, Crewe Independent Lines, MROC SSMs.

All of the Signallers on each one of these locations regulates trains across a busy working timetable and they work a 12-hour shift roster 7 days a week to keep the railway safe and on time.

The itinerary:

During this event you will get to meet the Network Rail Signallers on the Manchester, Liverpool and Blackpool workstations as well as the Crewe South and Sorting Sidings North (including the former Salop Goods area). There are also Shift Signaller Managers on the Manchester, Liverpool & Blackpool operations floor.
You will also get a chance to signal a few trains on the Network Rail Simulator as well as getting a Q&A session with the Local Operations Manager about the how they find working in a Railway Operating Centre in the Manchester area.

How to Attend

This is a CIRO members only event as visitor numbers are limited. Attendees will put into 3 groups for the tour and places will be offered on a first-come first-served basis – please ensure that you are free to attend before booking your place.

If the event is oversubscribed, a short reserve list will be put in place as we occasionally have last minute cancellations – email events@railwayoperators.co.uk if you would like to be added to the reserve list.
