Mallow Level Crossing Control Centre, Signalling location and Driver simulator

Hosted by the CIRO Irish Area Council

Thursday 18th June 2026 | 13:00

Location: Mallow Level Crossing Control Centre, Mallow

About the Event

Join CIRO in visiting the Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail) level crossing control centre and signalling location at Mallow.  This location controls a significant number of full barrier level crossings in the South and Southwest following a level -crossing modernisation programme to significantly reduce manually operated manned level crossings. Mallow is also the signalling control location for the Waterford and Tralee lines and is home to a driver simulator and training facility which we also hope to visit (TBC). Mallow is also the northern extremity of the Cork Suburban network and the junction for the Tralee line, making it a key node on the network in the South.

The visit is timed to permit travel from Belfast, Dublin and Cork that morning.

For international visitors, Mallow is easily accessible from Cork airport or Dublin.  Cork is 30 mins from Mallow, allowing visits to the Midleton and Cobh lines and to inspect new works in connection with the Cork Area Commuter Programme.
