About The Event

This talk will be presented Lucy McAuliffe, Sussex Route Director, providing an insight into the role of a route director and the challenges that such a responsibility brings with it, but also explain the opportunities and exposure that comes with the role.

As a route director, just as is the case with the wider railway industry, every minute matters. A route director needs to engage and enthuse multiple teams and employees to buy in to this mindset, to promote a positive working environment with a focus on delivering a safe and reliable railway for our passengers.

The talk will provide an awareness and understanding about the variety of tasks and expectations that fall into the role of a route director at Network Rail. It will also raise awareness about the challenges that a route director faces in their role and the steps that can be taken to combat these challenges, thanks to the support of great teams across routes and regions within Network Rail.

The talk will also go into Lucy’s work with train and freight operating company (TOC/FOC) colleagues and the strong bond that is formed between those who depend on our infrastructure to run their services and deliver for their customers. With rail reform high on the agenda within Westminster, we are already showcasing how we can bring track and train together with collaborative working and forward-thinking approaches to improve performance, thanks to the partnerships between Network Rail and TOC/FOC colleagues.
