The Irish Area Council invites members and their families to their family day. The Downpatrick and County Down Railway is a 2 mile heritage railway running from Downpatrick Town station to Inch Abbey and is Ireland’s only standard gauge heritage railway. The railway features a collection of equipment from all over Ireland, including the train used for filming the TV series ‘Derry Girls’. As well as the train ride to Inch Abbey where you can alight to explore, there is a large indoor museum, signal cabin and shop.
CIRO will be arranging light refreshments for the members attending and their families on site.
Exact timings will be advised, but the event is expected to run between 12:30pm to 15:00hrs. The Downpatrick and County Down Railway is easily accessible by car and bus direct from Belfast with the bus station immediately adjacent to the bus station.
Those attending can make further train rides if they so wish on the same ticket. Trains are likely to be a heritage DMU with a small chance that the railways steam locomotive may be operational again by then.
Places are limited to 30 for this visit, so book as soon as possible, to avoid disappointment.
