The North East Area Council invites members and their families to our family day.
The Weardale Railway is an 18 mile heritage line running from a connection with the main rail network at Bishop Auckland to Eastgate in Weardale, County Durham, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Currently a 16 mile section of line between Bishop Auckland and Stanhope has been restored for passenger and freight use.
Our Weardale Railway train is due to depart Bishop Auckland West at 11.30 arriving into Stanhope around 12.45. (A Northern service leaves Darlington at 10.55 arriving at Bishop Auckland at 11.21. Our train will wait to make the connection if it is late.)
During our journey, which will be by a DMU, we shall be making a couple of stops on the way up to Stanhope, at places of railway interest. We will stop outside the locomotive shed for people to take photos, although we will not be able to leave the train there as there isn’t a platform.
Upon arrival at Stanhope station there will be a buffet lunch provided for us, following which you have time to have a walk around the station and into the small market town, before our train departs at 15.15 for the return journey to Bishop Auckland, arriving at 16.08. (This should allow you to connect into the 16.27 Northern Service back to Darlington, arriving at 16:53 for any main line connections.)
Places are limited to 45 for this visit, so book as soon as possible, to avoid disappointment.
