Northern’s Intelligent Trains programme, launched in 2022, is aimed at improving train performance and reliability, by enabling trains to identify engine maintenance issues, track defects and many other potential problems. For instance, it will allow engine issues to be flagged before trains arrive back at the depot, help prevent unexpected breakdowns and reduce the amount of time trains spend out of service for repairs.
Marc Silverwood, Digital Trains System Manager at Northern, will be giving us an insight how the digital fitment has turned Northern’s fleet into a rolling network of smart, connected data-rich trains. Now, and with AI and Machine Learning on the horizon, unlocking real-time insights, predicting issues before they happen, and reimagining every journey. The future’s not just coming – it’s already onboard.
