Great Central Railway Family Day

About the Event

The Midlands Area Council invites members and families to our family day to the Great Central Railway.

Our Family Day gives the opportunity for partners and children of members to enjoy a great day out with fellow members.

The Great Central is the only preserved double track railway in the country and provides for a journey from Loughborough Central station to the southern terminus at Leicester North.

There are four stations on the route:
Loughborough Central which has a Buffet, shop, emporium and a small museum. It also offers access to the engine shed at the north end of the station.
Quorn & Woodhouse has a NAAFI style refreshment room and the Butler Henderson Café
Rothley has the Ellis Tearoom, Station Tearoom, and a garden railway.
Leicester North has a tea room and the station and facilities are worth a look.

For those travelling from Birmingham the train service is at 08.30 change at Derby, whilst from Derby the service is the 09.32, both services get you to Loughborough Midland at 09.52.
It is a 20-minute walk to the Great Central station were you will be met and after a short chat enjoy the rest of the day, the train leaving for Leicester North at 11.00. This service is operated by a diesel railcar, but for steam lovers you can detrain at Quorn and pick up the steam hauled train, which also conveys a Griddle car with tasty hot rolls.

Places are limited to 40 for this visit, therefore please register as soon as possible, as places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
