Prioritising Wellbeing: CIRO Team Members Complete Mental Health First Aiders Training

CIRO is proud to share that 11 members of our team have successfully completed the Mental Health First Aiders course delivered by St John Ambulance on Monday 3 and Tuesday 4th November.

This important training equips our team with the skills to recognise the signs of mental health challenges, offer initial support, and guide individuals towards appropriate professional help. It represents another step in CIRO’s ongoing commitment to fostering a workplace culture where mental wellbeing is prioritised, and stigma is challenged.

Continuing Our Wellbeing Journey

This initiative forms part of CIRO’s wider wellbeing journey, which has seen the organisation place increasing focus on supporting the mental and emotional health of its people. Earlier this year, that commitment was recognised when CIRO was named winner of the Wellbeing Award at the Railway Industry Association (RIA) 2025 Railway Industry Supplier Excellence (RISE) Awards — a proud moment that underlined the importance of wellbeing within CIRO’s culture.

Wellbeing remains a key part of who we are and how we work — creating a supportive environment where our team feels valued, connected, and empowered to bring their best selves to work every day.

Building a Supportive Culture

Vicky, CIRO’s Learning and Development Manager and Wellbeing Champion, said:

“Mental health affects all of us, and having more people trained to listen and support makes a real difference — not just in our workplace but beyond.

The excellent training from St John Ambulance has given our staff the tools to notice when someone’s not okay, and the confidence to reach out. It’s about being there for each other in the moments that matter.

As CIRO’s Wellbeing Champion, I see every day how kind and supportive our team is — it’s one of the things that makes this company so special. This training builds on that foundation and gives us even more ways to look out for each other, especially when life throws challenges our way. I’m really proud of the steps we’re taking together.”

A Commitment from the Top

Phil, CIRO’s CEO, added:

“As an organisation committed to the development of people, it is really important that we look after our own team.

It was great that CIRO was recognised for this by winning the Wellbeing Award at the RIA RISE Awards earlier this year, but there is still more for us to do.

Having so many trained Mental Health First Aiders, representing a range of departments, is an important next step in that journey. As a participant in the training this week, I found it hugely informative and thought-provoking, and it has prompted further ideas for what we can introduce in our workplace.

I am hugely grateful to Vicky, our Wellbeing Champion, for her hard work, which continues to drive this important activity.”

This achievement reflects CIRO’s ongoing dedication to creating a culture of care, compassion, and connection — where wellbeing is embedded in everything we do.
