Meteorologists and their role on Scotland’s Railway

Presented by

Don Roberts

Network Rail Scotland’s Head of Operational Weather Strategy

and

Camilla Tayler

Network Rail Scotland’s Weather Operations Delivery Manager

Wednesday 8th October | 18:00 – 19:00

Online

At this online event, you’ll hear from the team who look after Scotland’s operational weather strategy for the railway, and how it’s delivered day-to-day.

Don Roberts, Network Rail Scotland’s head of operational weather strategy, and Camilla Tayler, weather operations delivery manager, will present on how they support Network Rail’s operational staff in interpreting the weather and its potential impact on Scotland’s Railway. Particularly as the climate is changing, becoming warmer and wetter.

You’ll hear more about the range of fields the teams work in, including managing storms and other types of severe weather, proposing targeted mitigations such as speed restrictions to help keep services moving when it’s safe to do so.

With Scotland being the first of Network Rail’s nations & regions to embed meteorologists in its railway control room, it’s a rare insight into how the team works.

We look forward to seeing you online.
