2025 marks the 10th annual event promoting gender diversity and inclusion in rail while building teams and helping rail professionals make connections. Since its launch in 2016, the Big Rail Diversity Challenge has grown into a staple event of the rail industry, attracting over 600 people from across the sector to take part in fun mental, physical and skill-based challenges.
Women in Rail and Nimble Media Ltd have developed this fun, yet serious, flagship event to allow participants from across all levels to team-build through a series of mental, physical and skill-based challenges and to fundraise for the charity’s vital efforts for the industry.
CIRO proudly supports initiatives such as Women in Rail because a diverse and inclusive workforce is essential to the future of the rail industry. These organisations work tirelessly to break down barriers, promote equality, and inspire more individuals from underrepresented groups to build fulfilling careers in rail. CIRO believes that by embracing diversity, the industry can draw on a broader range of skills, experiences, and perspectives, which are crucial for innovation and progress. Gender diversity in rail is better for people, better for business and better for rail.
As the only professional institution for rail operations, CIRO is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all members feel valued, respected, and supported throughout their careers. By collaborating with Women in Rail, CIRO helps empower individuals and organisations across the rail sector to build workplaces where everyone can thrive. This commitment aligns with our values of inclusivity, collaboration, and professionalism, reinforcing CIRO’s dedication to a rail industry that reflects and serves the diverse communities it operates within.
