The results are in!

The Chartered Institution of Railway Operators has been recognised as having made “reasonable progress” in its Monitoring Inspection visit from OFSTED.

The Inspection took place over two days in February and looked at CIRO’s apprenticeships across apprentice standards level 3, 4 and 5.

Fiona Tordoff, CEO of CIRO said “the apprenticeship service we offer has been created with significant employer involvement and it is a great endorsement for this fantastic sector that we have received a ‘reasonable progress’ in all categories at this early stage in our development.”

The Inspection focused on CIRO’s apprenticeship provision since becoming a registered provider with the government’s register of apprenticeship provision.  Since taking on its first apprentices in 2018, the Inspection took place 17 months later when CIRO had 110 apprentices on roll and found that “apprentices develop a strong understanding of their industry and acquire substantial new knowledge and skills which they impart to good effect in the workplace.”

The whole CIRO apprenticeship team would like to take the opportunity to thank its employer-partners and the apprentices for their willingness to experiment with learning delivery through levy funded learning and for their commitment to the profession of rail operations.
