Tyne & Wear Metro Visit

Hosted by CIRO North East Area Council

Thursday 11th May

Meet 10:00 at Central Station, Newcastle
(at the Metro entrance on the concourse)

About the Event

The North East Area Council invites members to our visit to the Tyne & Wear Metro.

The future of any city-region depends on the best transport networks to allow its people to move around easily. Metro Futures, Nexus’ major programme aimed at improving public transport, includes the introduction of a new train fleet, investment in vital infrastructure, and exploring the potential to expand the reach of Metro and local rail. The Tyne and Wear Metro has taken delivery of its first Stadler Class 555 EMU at Gosforth, ahead of the type’s introduction into service later this year.

The visit will include a visit to South Shields to visit the Nexus Learning Centre (a potential opportunity for the new Class 555 simulator, yet to be confirmed), where we will meet Martin Kearney, Managing Director, Nexus, who will deliver a presentation about Nexus / Metro. We will then take a ferry to North Shields and the Metro to Nexus Control at Gosforth. A visit to the new depot at Gosforth is also a possibility, but is subject to confirmation.

Places are limited to 15 for this visit, so please register as soon as possible, as places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
