An Introduction to Midlands Engine Rail

Hosted by CIRO Midlands Area Council

Tuesday 16th May at 17:30

In-person at Midlands Connect in Birmingham
Online via Microsoft Teams

About the Event

Guest Speakers:
Andrew Clark and Tawhida Yaacoub, Senior Rail Programme Managers at Midlands Connect

On May 16th, our guest speakers will provide details on Midlands Engine Rail (MER), which is a portfolio of rail schemes across the Midlands. The MER portfolio has always been designed to complement and build on HS2, spreading the benefits to the whole of the Midlands, adding east-west links, making new connections into the high-speed network and exploiting the capacity HS2 releases for new passenger and freight services.

MER provides a significant opportunity for Midlands Connect, in conjunction with its partners, to create a transport system that is built around the railway. HS2 and MER have been planned in conjunction with each other to establish core national and regional rail connectivity.

Examples of the individual schemes within MER are Midlands Rail Hub, new direct services between Coventry, Leicester and Nottingham, and faster & ultimately more frequent services between Nottingham and Lincoln.

Andy and Tawhida will talk through the business case work that has been undertaken to get these schemes into the Rail Network Enhancements Pipeline.

17:15 meet for 17:30 at Midlands Connect, Floor 19, Studio 3, Alpha Tower, Suffolk Street Queensway
Birmingham, B1 1TT
Numbers attending in-person are strictly limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.
