Intelligent Infrastructure – an insight into the future of asset management by Stephen Moore

CP6 has seen a huge step change in the utilisation of fixed and mobile Remote Condition Monitoring (RCM) solutions for Network Rail’s diverse infrastructure.  This technology gives Engineers insights into the condition of their assets without the requirement for onsite, visual inspection.  Newly developed principles will allow asset managers to move to a reliability-based approach to maintenance activities and significantly reduce the number of times staff will be required to go lineside. This new approach allows Engineers to use trend data, to proactively target poorly performing assets before they fail.

Stephen has worked in the rail industry for nearly 20 years in various maintenance and operations roles. Most recently he led the Wessex Intelligent Infrastructure team and is now Principal Engineer for Network Rail’s Mobile Monitoring team. He is passionate about utilising new technology to improve safety and performance, and ensuring we reduce boots on ballast.
