Level 4 Passenger Transport Operations Manager Apprenticeship Standard
The passenger Transport Operations Manager Apprenticeship is ideal for participants who would like to learn how to provide a high-quality, accessible and safe transport service. The course provides learners with a detailed understanding of the operational transport service, its targets, obligations and infrastructure through ‘real life’ learning and academic studying.

Level 5 Operations or Departmental Manager Apprenticeship Standard
The Operations or Departmental Manager Apprenticeship is perfect for participants who are eager to progress into management roles, whether that be individual teams or projects. The course delves deep into the key responsibilities required of a leader, focussing on planning in addition to managing and leading a team.
The course outlines departmental goals and objectives as part of the delivery of the organisation’s strategy, looking at modules such as Project Management, Finance, Decision making and more.
After achieving a Level 5 in Operations or Departmental Manager Apprenticeship, CIRO members also have the ability to upgrade their membership level from Affiliate to Associate.

What to expect from an apprenticeship with CIRO
CIRO’s apprenticeship programme is spread across 16 – 27 months, depending on the level. Throughout an apprenticeship in rail, participants will have access to a plethora of learning assets, online webinars and continual learning and behavioural development resources to aid their studies.
To fulfil the apprenticeship, students will be required to attend a number of teaching days which can be completed either online or in person. They will also be involved in regular reviews with a CIRO coach and line manager to guide their development opportunities.
At the end of the course, an Endpoint Assessment will be completed to demonstrate new knowledge. This independent evaluation will be showcased through the delivery of a presentation as well as a professional review of the individuals apprenticeship learning.
Requirements for an apprenticeship in rail
- A minimum of 6 hours per week spent in off-the-job training.
- If participants do not yet have Maths and English qualifications at GCSE equivalent, they will undertake additional learning to complete Functional Skills level 2.
